The Oscars this year was a truly nail biting experience, even though the box office smash Avatar has apparently earned $2.6billion, making it the biggest film of all time, it only won three awards out of the nine categories it was nominated in, and The Hurt Locker, which only grossed just over $21million carried away the majority of the awards!
The director of The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow was also the first women to win the Best Director award – another triumph for the film.
Other actors and actresses who received some acting honours were:
Jeff Bridges – who won best actor for Crazy Heart.
Sandra Bullock – who won best actress for The Blind Side
Christoph Waltz – who won best supporting actor in Inglourious Basterds.
