Quiksilver was created in the 1970’s by designer and founder Alan Green. The brand was designed to reflect a wave of surf-loving youths who wanted to be able to dress the part when moving in surfing circles. From the 1970’s onwards the brand has become world-renowned for its quality products which are both fashionable and young.

In the early 2000’s Quiksilver created a sister company called Roxy which caters for the young, female surfer. Both brands have reveled in much-deserved success.

Essentially it is a large, cylindrical, glass vase filled with hundreds of fairy lights, but the effect is amazing! It gives off that warm glow which is so essential for a peaceful ambiance in a bedroom.

We all had high hopes for this summer. Summer clothes were being squeezed back into, Pimms was being knocked back and paddling pools were out. The joyful summer sounds of children playing in the garden and cars with their windows down belting out summer songs filled the sweet, freshly-cut grass smelling air.

Wall.E is a brilliant, disney movie with that all too predictable but nonetheless heart-warming Walt Disney plot! This is a great one for younger children but also the use of clever humour by Disney makes it also funny for adults and grandparents!

A more touchingly poignant, heart-warming tale you will not find. Fried Green Tomatoes beautifully contrasts life in Georgia in the 1930’s with the stresses of modern-day life in the 1980’s. From Evelyn’s (Kathy Bates) and Ninny’s (Jessica Tandy) story-telling of their separate and entirely different lives an unlikely yet fiercely loyal friendship occurs giving both women fulfilment and love. This film is perfect for all the family (apart from the very small ones) but do be warned there are references to traumatic incidences and violent racism so proceed with caution with very young children! In my view, a rainy day only serves to enhance this fiesty yet romantic tale of the deep south.

Disney Pixar’s Ratatouille is another not to be missed! With the use of cutting-edge graphics which make all of the food in this film look utterly irresistible, you will be enthralled by the witty storyline and the at times very realistic portrayal of a bustling restaurant kitchen! A perfect, uplifting film for all the family, no matter what age!

Get swept away into a world of fantasy in the most breathtaking animation Japan has ever seen. The highest selling box-office film ever in Japan, it is easy to see why. Spirited Away involves complex themes of love, friendship, abandonment, loss and acceptance all encapsulated in the plot of a fairy tale with goodies and baddies, but like you have never seen before! This is a definite must-see and we can guarantee anyone of any age will fall in love with it!

The Secret Garden tells a magical tale of friendship and love and how such human emotions can overcome times of sadness. This film is suitable for all ages and will be enjoyed by all!

In years gone by, video games had a target market of teenage boys, with messy rooms and bad attitudes. For this week’s spotlight, I compiled the ultimate list of games on the market at the moment. I handpicked these games based on reviews, sales and most importantly what I thought of the game.

Alan Wake is a supernatural thriller novelist and has just finished an especially haunting novel. Him and his wife Alice, head away to a small town in Washington, Spring Falls, to relax and take a little holiday. When they arrive, there is an ominous feeling in the town. The small-town residents are charming but there is a feeling of unease that hangs in the air and many of the residents say, if you stay too long in Bright Falls it can start to play with your mind a little. With this sense of unease already beginning to set in on Alan, his wife Alice disappears. As he desperately searches for her, things start to deteriorate and the world of the supernatural that he created in his most recent novel starts to come to life immersing Alan in a world of evil which he may never be able to escape from.

Gripping stuff eh!?

In this interactive game, your character is Alan Wake and you guide him through the small town of Spring Falls to look for his wife. Not only is the storyline gripping but the graphics are magnificent. Playing the game immerses you in the world and feels like you are right there due to the amazing 3D graphics and realistic soundtrack, with echo noises and running water sounds.

Overall, you can clearly see in this game, the attention to detail Microsoft has put into this game has really paid off and if you are to buy one game this year, make it Alan Wake!

Can you believe it? Yes, it has in fact been 30 years this May that the Hungarian university lecturer Erno Rubik released his mindboggling puzzle cube that became the most popular puzzle in the world.
