We will be present at the OMD 2008 in Düsseldorf again. This great event about Online Marketing is an excellent event and great occassion to meet the business partners and competitors of Europe. For those who have forgotten last year’s OMD, you can check out the interview of Tobias Caldeweyher through Julius Endert from Handelsblatt.comhere. Make sure that you contact us at contact @ letsbuyit.com in order for us to arrange a meeting with you at the OMD.
Last Thursday we participated in the OpenCoffee Roundtable in Hamburg, which treated the topic “PR for start-ups”. It was an interesting get-together because entrepreneurs from Hamburg met to discuss how the PR should be handled for start-ups. Those exchanges of experience in a small group are very inspiring because it gives you the chance to also see what others are thinking, who they know and what mistakes have already been made. These were the participants of last week along with their companies:
Without getting too much in details our conclusions are somewhat the following:
1) When you want to do PR then you better be well prepared for it and have a significant impact on the agency, in case you use one, because only the founders can really communicate and reflect the “spirit” of the company.
2) Only when you are really creative will the PR be successful because nowadays every is overloaded with great ideas, events and stories so it is difficult to stick out.
3) When you want that a journalist writes a story about you then you must deliver them a story, that can mention you as an example, because they will definitely not write an ad about you for you.
4) In case you want to use an agency you better a get a good one that actually knows all the individual journalists and bloggers, one that does those tedious follow-up calls and knows WHEN to contact the press (Mondays and early mornings are just the worst time, according to this great Techcrunch article).
On Tuesday we were lucky enough to visit the CeBit 2008 in Hannover and it was quite amazing. The amount of retailers and new products are quite fascinating however it was a little short of fascinating new gadgets, which were unheard of. The trends are predictably M-Commerce, Mobile Technologies, GPS and Internet Security. These new technologies need a lot of development, which is reflected in the plentitude of headhunters and job offers in the hall for Human Resource Recruitment.
However what never ceases to amaze me is the audacity with which some of the companies are demonstrating the copies of the original products. Read this article on Heise to get an idea.
Here is a list of the most useful items that the modern man needs, in my opinion:
HDTV Flatscreen with 3D conversion for the best effects;
ruggedized laptops that are water-resistant (and coffee) can be dropped from the table, can work at -20 upto +60 degrees Celsius with battery for 8.5 hours. This way we can work from anywhere, even the post-Emma Germany;
Yesterday and today, Emmanuel and me are at the OMD 2007 Media and Marketing Fair in Düsseldorf. Everybody of the German Marketing and Advertising scene is represented at this fair so it is a great opportunity to meet all the companies, potential partners and representatives of our competitors alike.
The potential is amazing and therefore we are more than keen to soon launch and be part of this thriving e-commerce movement of new media. We can identify interesting shifts in the news, media and marketing industry as the market is moving on from the old ways of thinking into the new e-generation. One sentence summarizes our blackberry generation: “We have reached a time, where people are willing to send intangible cyber-gifts and even pay for this”.
One highlight, at least for us, was my interview with the Julius Endert from Handelsblatt.com, the most influential business newspaper in Germany, who also act as main sponsor for the OMD. Check out the video in the Handelsblatt Video Page. You will soon be able to find the translated script here on our blog.
The 4th edition of the E-Commerce Convention took place in Paris last week. The team of LetsBuyIt spent quite some time among the conferences and different stands, each one according to their dedicated subjects: referencing, payment systems, affiliation as well as performance technologies.
It is a great environment of news but above all a great occasion to have a good vision on the actual needs of the “e-commercials”, thanks to the interventions of the users/clients themselves!
In these kind of lounges, it is not always obvious to choose, which conference to participate in: among the subjects and the speakers, the managers that take one hour to advertise their business and those that really add value to concrete problems, the choice is not always easy and the result is not always the best!
But we acknowledge that the majority of content that we worked with was of very very good quality, and above all very instructive for us who relaunch and who have a lot of questions about a lot of problems!
We will also be in Berlin at the beginning of November, which also has a great reputation, but we will talk to you about this in more detail later!
There has been much talk recently about Web 2.0 tools, mostly in the consumer market with companies and products such as MySpace, Flickr, Wikipedia, and YouTube. In 2006, professor Andrew McAfee of the Harvard Business School coined the term “Enterprise 2.0″ to describe the principles of Web 2.0 in a business context, defining it as “the use of emergent social software platforms within companies, or between companies and their partners or customers.”
The third edition of the “Le Web 3″ conference will hapen on December 11 & 12. If you are in Europe during this period, just save the date right now! (Note: registration is not open yet)
